Crystal
Reports XI Release 2 |
Business Objects has recently
released Crystal Reports XI Release 2 (R2). Crystal Reports XI users should
carefully review the following information to help you understand
the impact Crystal Reports XI R2 will have on your existing
reports and applications:
-
Crystal Reports XI R2 is a new Business Objects product release;
it is not a “hotfix” or “service pack.”
-
This R2 product release is not the
same as the SP2 service pack for Crystal Reports XI that has
been available since early June.
-
The currently available DataFlex Connectivity Kit for Crystal
Reports XI (pre-R2) will not install or function with Crystal
Reports XI R2.
-
As a new release of Crystal Reports, we must adjust the
Connectivity Kit to support the changes in the new R2 host
product. We are actively engaged in this process.
-
If you use Crystal Reports XI for reporting on the DataFlex
embedded database, do not install Crystal Reports R2 until the
appropriate, tested, and officially released Connectivity Kit is
available for it.
-
If you use a DBMS other than the DataFlex embedded database (e.g.
IBM DB2, MS-SQL Server), you may upgrade to Crystal Reports XI R2
using the same migration and validation procedures appropriate to
any software upgrade in a business environment (including the
necessary backups, testing, validation, etc.).
Crystal Reports XI Release 2
is only required in three specific cases:
- If you need Visual Studio 2005
compatibility
- If you need to connect to
universes in BusinessObjects XI Release 2
- If you use a third-party
product that includes a custom Crystal Reports menu.
If none of these cases applies to
you, you do not need to install Crystal Reports XI
Release 2.
We will post further information about Data Access Worldwide's
support for Crystal Reports XI R2 as it becomes available.
Crystal Reports XI R2 for DataFlex,
once released, will only be available on DVD media.
